The other day my husband and I were having a conversation when he told me, “You’re beating it into the ground!” Which gave rise to my pondering of this phrase.
Fence posts surrounding a horse pasture HAVE to be beaten into the ground to function. But you have to stop when the fence height is just right and the posts are secure. The fence is too short and useless for containing horses if the posts are beaten into the ground.
Knowing when a topic is discussed too much, or just right, isn’t always easy. But, neither is building a fence. Measuring our words is just as important as measuring our fence posts.
