In Reflection ~ Springtime and Green Pastures

As I walked around Cheyenne, Reecie turned and ran away when she saw me approach through the pasture, halter in hand.

“Really Reecie? You have to be like that?”

As the days became longer, and the weather warmer, we entered the fifth season of a horse barn — Shedding Season. Where brushing takes on a new vigor, and fluffy, teddy bear, horses become sleek and glossy once again.

We passed several spring evenings, and weekends, with lots of brushing, but there was an evening visit when Cheyenne, the leader of the herd, inserted herself between me and Reecie. As I walked around Cheyenne, Reecie turned and ran away when she saw me approach through the pasture, halter in hand.

Instead of working hard to catch Reecie, I changed my plans. Instead of another session of brushing, I spent my evening horse time watching the horses interact with each other.

“Really Reecie? You have to be like that?”

I watched the horses graze, moving from one spot to another, always staying where they could see each other, and me.

After several minutes, Reecie raised her head and walked over to where I stood in the shade. I reached up to stroke her face while we spent time together in the peace of the green pasture.

In Reflection ~

How often do I allow other people, or activities, to come between me and God? When He “walks right up to me”, do I turn away like Reecie did when she saw the halter? Or do I approach Him to spend time with Him? To find the peace, the joy, the tranquility, that is only available with Him, in His pasture?

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. he makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul” Psalm 23:1-2 (NASB).

The Maze of Life

Have you ever been lost and didn’t know which way to go? Struggled to see the end of the path, only to find out there are several turns? Wanted to get to the finish line, but the finish line wasn’t close enough? Which direction to turn? How far until the end, the answer, the finish, the solution?

Well, if you are out enjoying autumn fun in the countryside these are the questions posed while navigating the corn maze. Increasing in popularity, these treks can be torture (for older ladies like me), challenging (mothers with small children may find it so), but still – fun.

Following Jesus is a lot like walking through a corn maze. You don’t always know which direction to turn. You can’t see the path ahead. We will make wrong decisions. But, just like the staff members watching over the maze and its travelers, God watches over us. He can set our feet on the right path. He can block the wrong direction and tell us which way to turn.

For the corn maze, there is a map, and the counsel of the people who work there. For the maze of life, we have the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit.

Don’t stay lost.

“… He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake” Psalm 23:3 (NASB).
